First Try: Two K Medals at East Meets West

Feb 20, 2019 – Since 1982, the West Coast Wine Competition (WCWC) has annually recognized wines produced and bottled in the West. The International Eastern Wine Competition (IEWC), launched in 1975, is one of the oldest and longest running wine competitions in the nation. Both competitions ran concurrently. The Best of Show wines from the IEWC competed head-to- head with the Best of Show wines from the WCWC. Traditional awards were given in each division. This format afforded each entrant two chances to win; one in its own competition and one in the taste-off for wines advancing to the top level. Coined “East Meets West”.

Wines were simultaneously judged in two divisions: International Eastern Wine Competition and the West Coast Wine Competition. Traditional awards will be given in each division. The East Meets West collected 57 Best of Class awards and 24 Double Gold and Gold medals.

This was the first entry into a hard cider or wine competition by Two K Farms Cidery and Winery. Two K Farms entered two wines and three hard ciders for the 2019 competition. Judging was held at the Sonoma County Fairgrounds in California from February 6 – 7. All of the entries from Two K farms received medals! 2017 Cille Rose won Bronze, and 2017 Riesling won Silver. Benjamin and Hopp’D hard cider both received a Silver medal. Sangria hard cider took a Gold medal with a score of 91 out of 100. Two K Farms was the only producer from Michigan who won medals in the Cider category.

Two K Farms would like to thank our cider and wine maker Adam Satchwell for his excellent craftsmanship and knowledge in the making of these fine hard ciders and wines. Adam is a graduate of UC-Davis with a degree in Viticulture and Enology. He previously worked in California for 20+ years before moving to Traverse City area in early 2000, where he was the winemaker at Shady Lane for 16 years. The Two K Farms team is very excited for the future, and look forward to creating more award-winning hard ciders and wines that are representative of this unique region of northwest Michigan.

In 2019, we plan on offering even more award-winning hard ciders and wines at Two K Farms. Stop by our tasting room just minutes north of Traverse City on scenic M‑22. We hope to see you soon!
